Practical guide
Power Cut Preparation Checklist for Homes
Prepare for planned and unexpected outages with practical charging, lighting, food-storage and safety steps.
Before a planned outage
Check the date, affected locality and time window. Charge phones and power banks, save work and keep a torch accessible.
During the interruption
Prefer battery-powered lights. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed and protect sensitive electronics if voltage fluctuations are possible.
Plan for essential needs
Consider drinking water, communication, mobility needs and any essential equipment. Follow the equipment maker’s backup-power guidance.
Use generators safely
Portable generators must be operated outdoors, away from doors and windows. Never back-feed household wiring through a wall socket.
After power returns
Restore appliance use gradually. If you notice burning smells, sparking or repeated circuit trips, stop using the affected circuit and seek qualified help.
