Practical guide

Electrical Safety During Monsoon and Cyclone Outages

Safety guidance for storms, flooding, fallen conductors and power restoration in Tamil Nadu.

← All guides

Stay away from fallen wires

Assume every fallen conductor is live. Do not touch it or move it with an object; keep people and animals away and report it immediately.

Avoid flooded electrical areas

Do not enter flooded areas where electrical equipment may be submerged. Wait for qualified personnel if safe access is uncertain.

Operate backup power safely

Run portable generators outdoors only, away from openings. Never operate them in homes, garages or enclosed balconies.

Prepare for prolonged outages

Keep essential supplies, drinking water, a torch and charged communication devices accessible. Follow local emergency advisories.

After a storm

Do not assume a line is safe because it appears inactive. Report damaged poles and exposed cables and allow utility crews to inspect them.

Check local information

Visit today’s shutdown list, tomorrow’s list or browse Tamil Nadu district pages. Confirm time-sensitive information with official TNPDCL notices.
