TNEB power cut complaint numbers for Tamil Nadu
Every official TNPDCL / TANGEDCO helpline for reporting a power cut in Tamil Nadu — 1912, the call centre, WhatsApp and the Minnagam grievance route — and what to say when you call.
There are only a handful of official routes for reporting an outage in Tamil Nadu, and knowing which one to use saves an hour of being transferred.
The numbers
| 24x7 toll-free, all districts | 1912 |
|---|---|
| 24x7 call centre | 94987 94987 |
| WhatsApp complaints | 94458 50811 |
These are statewide. They are the same number whether you are calling from Chennai, Madurai, Salem or a village in Ramanathapuram; the call is routed by the service connection number or the address you give.
Your section office matters more than you think
The lineman and the section office nearest you are the people who will physically restore your supply. Their number is on your bill. For a single-house fault, calling the section office directly during working hours is often faster than the central helpline. For anything affecting a whole street at night, the 1912 route is correct because it creates a logged complaint.
What to have ready before you call
- Your service connection number from the bill.
- The exact time the supply failed.
- Whether neighbours are affected, and roughly how many houses or streets.
- Anything you saw or heard: a bang, sparking, a leaning pole, a snapped line, smoke from a transformer.
- A landmark a crew unfamiliar with your street can find.
Always ask for and write down the complaint or docket number. A follow-up call quoting that number reaches the status of your actual complaint; a follow-up without it starts a new one.
Emergencies take priority
A fallen live conductor, sparking on a pole near people, a fire at a meter board, or a snapped line across a road is an emergency, not a routine outage. Say so in the first sentence of the call, keep everyone away from the spot, and if there is fire or injury call 101 or 108 as well.
If the complaint is not acted on
Escalate to the assistant engineer and then the executive engineer of your section, quoting the docket number and the time the complaint was raised. Beyond that, TNPDCL operates the Minnagam grievance mechanism, and consumers may approach the consumer grievance redressal forum and ultimately the electricity ombudsman for unresolved disputes such as prolonged supply failure, billing errors or delayed new connections. Keep dates, docket numbers and copies of everything you submit.
